Starting secondary school is an exciting milestone, and we understand that every student’s journey is unique. Our goal is to make the transition to Brighton Secondary College smooth, supportive, and positive for students and families alike.
Years 7 and 8 Program
In Years 7 and 8, students study the core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, and Humanities, along with a broad range of subjects from the Arts, Technologies, Health, Physical Education, and Wellbeing curriculum. The language studied at BSC is Japanese. This balanced program supports both academic growth and personal development, helping students build confidence, curiosity, and resilience.
Students participate in weekly Physical Education and Sport, as well as whole-school swimming, athletics, and inter-house competitions that promote teamwork, school spirit, and active lifestyles.
Learning extends beyond the classroom through camps, house activities, incursions, and excursions, offering rich experiences that strengthen connections and foster a sense of belonging within the Brighton Secondary College community.
Students are encouraged to get involved in leadership opportunities and enjoy a wide range of lunchtime clubs and co-curricular activities, helping them develop new skills, make friends, and contribute to school life in meaningful ways..
Year 9 Program
Year 9 is an important transition from junior to senior school. Students begin to take greater ownership of their learning by choosing electives alongside core studies in English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Health, and Physical Education.
Through the Careers and Pathways programs, students explore their interests, develop study and organisational skills, and reflect on their goals and strengths.
Students complete two electives per semester, with Languages studied as a year-long subject. This structure allows students to explore new areas, build confidence, and prepare for the pathways offered in their senior years.
Year 10 Program
Year 10 marks the beginning of Senior School, with greater independence, academic rigour, and preparation for future pathways. Students’ complete examinations each semester and engage in a strong career education program that includes course counselling, mock interviews, guest speakers, and work experience.
Students select from a wide range of electives and have the opportunity to apply for VCE acceleration, undertaking one or two VCE Unit 1 and 2 subject as part of their Year 10 program. Placement is based on student interest, academic progress, and learning behaviours.
This year provides valuable preparation for senior studies, helping students make informed choices and build the skills needed for success in Years 11 and 12.
